105th Air National Guard
For the past 15 years the 105th Airlift Wing has worked closely with Stewart Int’l Airport in efforts to improve the quality of life and economy of the Hudson Valley. We too have been residents of this great community for almost 20 years and we are proud to have contributed to the success and growth of the region. Having the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with Stewart Int’l Airport is something we are extremely proud of and we look forward to the future. Stewart Air National Guard Base is one of the Hudson Valley’s top-ten employers. Our 1,700 military men and women are highly trained, hardworking and dedicated to serving both New York State and the Federal Government. Our facilities are located on 250 acres at Stewart International Airport and our 12,000ft runway is ideally suited for the C-5 mission. We are one of two Air National Guard Bases in the country with an operational C-5 tasking.
The C-5 “Galaxy” is one of the largest aircraft in the world. With a length of 247.8 feet and a wingspan of 222.8 feet the C-5 is almost as long, and wider than, a football field. At a height of more than 65 feet, the aircraft’s “T-tail” rises nearly as high as a six-story building. To maintain proficiency and to hone their skills for such a unique aircraft, our pilots and aircrews often conduct training in our 12,000-square foot C-5 flight simulator facility. At a cost of roughly 30 million dollars Stewart is also the only ANG unit in the county to offer such technology to its military members. The simulator’s flight deck nearly identical to that of the C-5’s, and every button and lever and gauge has the exact same function/location as it would on the real aircraft. Equipped with a high-resolution visual system that produces full-color imagery, trainees get to experience the benefits of enhanced graphic displays while flying the C-5 Flight Simulator.
