||
Mid-Hudson – One person was killed when his car skidded across a road in the Town of Goshen and he struck an oncoming vehicle. A State Trooper was injured in an accident on Route 17 in the Monroe area as he was investigating another accident, authorities said. He sustained a leg injury. Goshen Police said David Degroat, 39, of New Hampton, was killed when his car skidded on Maple Avenue at 8 a.m. and ran into the path of another vehicle. That Jeep Liberty ran off the road and down an embankment; however, the driver and his wife, Richard and Betty Slesinski, were not injured. Degroat was taken to the Arden Hill Campus of Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Thruway, Taconic, Palisades Parkway, I-84 and Rt. 17 were among the roads that were at virtual standstills with vehicles creeping along. Even with that, cars wound up down embankments or in multi-vehicle pileups. In a five hour period between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, the Orange County Emergency Services Center logged 259 accidents or weather related incidents.
