Wanted man unleashes three pit bulls on police officers

WHITE PLAINS – Greenburgh Town Police had to shoot and kill three pit bulls after their owner, who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for criminal mischief in the second degree, unleashed the animals at them and one officer was attacked suffering injuries to both arms.

When other officers tried unsuccessfully to snare, Taser and tranquilize the animals, they kept attacking so police killed all three.

The incident last Saturday night began when officers found Alex Herrera-Washington, 22, outside his last known residence at 95 Florence Avenue. He ran into the building and barricaded himself inside.

Police learned he had a black handgun and the pit bulls so the SAT team was called in.

After attempts to negotiate failed, officers entered the building and were attacked by the dogs.

After Herrera-Washington was arrested, police found a pellet gun and a house covered with animal feces, urine, debris and garbage.

The injured officer was treated and released at a hospital.

Herrera-Washington was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending a court appearance.
