Man charged with breaking into home, drinking wine in underwear

MINISINK – State Police at Middletown have arrested a Wantage Township, NJ man for allegedly breaking into a house in the Town of Minisink, drinking a bottle of wine and then walking home in his underwear.

Andrew Hurth, 38, was charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny.

Police said the homeowner at the 68 Pine Hill Road residence heard noise in the house at 3 a.m. Saturday and assumed it was a pet.

When he awoke at 6:30 a.m., he found a downstairs window was open with the screen removed. A bottle of wine was missing from the kitchen, which police found almost empty on the property. Next to it was a pile of clothing including pants, a short, socks and sneakers. Police found Hurth’s ID in his wallet left with the clothes.

It turns out he apparently had been drinking at the Backtrack Inn in the Village of Unionville earlier in the evening. He walked to the Pine Hill road residence, drank the wine in the front yard and then walked home about a quarter mile into New Jersey in his underwear.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
