| City assessor reappointed in Yonkers |
|
YONKERS -- Mayor Philip Amicone Wednesday announced his reappointment of Mark Russell as city assessor, as post he has occupied since 1992. Russell, a veteran public servant with more than 25 years professional experience in the tax assessment field, will serve a six year term that will expire on August 31, 2014. His appointment is not subject to City Council confirmation. Russell was first appointed by Mayor Terry Zaleski in 1992 to fill an unexpired term. He was reappointed to a full term in 1996 and again in 2002 by Mayor John Spencer. This will be his third full term. The City Assessor oversees the Yonkers Assessment Department, which is responsible for establishing the assessed value for all property within the city's municipal boundaries, the largest source of revenue for municipal and school district operations. The department produces an annual Assessment Roll reflecting changes in property condition, ownership, boundaries and exemption status; is responsible for minimizing revenue losses resulting from Board of Assessment Review, Small Claims Assessment Review and Certiorari challenges; and provides property information and tax liability analyses to the general public, private industry and governmental entities.
