Four charged with auto break-ins

MONTICELLO – Four people have been arrested on larceny charges by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office following an investigation into a rash of vehicle break-ins in the Monticello area.

Charged were Raymond Castro, 20, and Pedro Agosto, 18, both of Monticello, and Theresa Sarosy, 19, of White Lake and Claribel Mojica, 24, of Liberty.

Early Sunday morning, deputies responded to a 911 call of two suspicious men, possibly breaking into vehicles at 14 Gafen Lane in Kiamesha Lake.

The sheriff’s office, which had investigated a rash of thefts from vehicles in the Monticello area over the past three weeks, flooded the area with patrols.

A short time later, deputies noticed where grass has been trampled in a path leading to the woods and heard twigs snapping.

Deputies pursued the suspects and eventually caught them near the basketball courts of the former Gibbers Hotel.

One male suspect was wearing a complete camouflage outfit and the other was dressed in dark clothing. Both were wearing plastic gloves when they were arrested.

The two female accomplices, also wearing dark clothing, were discovered sitting in a car, just out of site, at a nearby gravel bank. They were taken into custody and questions.

Later Sunday morning, police searched a residence at 42 Champlin Avenue in the Village of Liberty where they recovered property including several global positions systems, cell phones and other electronics.

The sheriff’s office expects other charges to be filed as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the sheriff’s confidential tips hotline at 845-807-0158.
