BEACON – A new fund to support the arts in the City of Beacon is being formed and it is honoring retired Beacon Mayor Clara Lou Gould. She served as mayor for 18 years. The Beacon Arts Community Association is spearheading the fund. On Friday evening, September 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. fundraisers will be held at the VanBrunt Gallery, 460 Main Street and at the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street, both in Beacon. The event is being held in conjunction with a special preview for a Hudson Valley Artists invitational exhibition that opens the following day at the Van Brunt Gallery. The goal of the Clara Lou Gould Fund for the Arts is to fund Beacon projects not generally supported by other area arts organizations, including individual artist's projects, unique exhibition, performance or public art projects, arts education programs, and community projects that promote area artists and arts activities and that draw attention to the valuable role of arts and culture in our community. The Clara Lou Gould Fund for the Arts, a fund at the Community Foundation of Dutchess County, will create an ongoing revenue stream to support existing and future arts projects that may be developed by artists and organizations in the region. Tickets are $100 per person. Event sponsorships are available at a cost of $500. Visit www.cfdcny.org/page30064.cfm for information about the event and an on-line ticket purchase option are available through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County. For additional information about the event and about Beacon, visit the www.beaconarts.org or call 845-546-6222. |
