Four-county initiative launched to prevent foreclosure

Linge: "a real good model"

POUGHKEEPSIE - A new foreclosure prevention initiative for Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan counties, Hudson Valley Foreclosure Prevention Services, was launched Tuesday in Poughkeepsie.

With $1 million in funding, Hudson Valley Foreclosure Prevention Services is a joint effort between Hudson River Housing, Rural Ulster Preservation Company, and Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, providing counseling and loss mitigation services to residents of the four counties.

"Our goal is to keep people in their homes by working with them to provide appropriate counseling and mitigating services,” said Gail Webster, Executive Director of Hudson River Housing.

Mary Linge, director of home ownership and education at Hudson River Housing, said the program is expected to assist a large number of people.

“We think we’ve come up with a real good model that’s going to really help a lot of Mid-Hudson Valley residents,” she said. They expect to assist over 1,100 residents through the program.
