Local man identified as victim of train fatality

TOMPKINS COVE – Stony Point Police have identified the man who was killed instantly when he jumped in front of a CSX freight train in Tompkins Cove on Monday evening as Flavio Marijas, 51, of Tompkins Cove.

Police said he was self-employed in residential cleaning with his wife.

Marijas stepped in front of the moving train as it passed along West Shore Drive.

Police offered no motive for the apparent suicide.
