House members score high on national environmental issues

WASHINGTON – The League of Conservation Voters has scored Hudson Valley members of Congress with high grades.

House Members Maurice Hinchey, Nita Lowey and John Hall all scored 100 percent with regard to the criteria of the national organization.

That means the lawmakers are right on target with environmental issues, said league Legislative Director Tiernan Sittenfeld.

“It’s great to see that New York is real helping to lead the country toward the clean energy economy that is going to protect the planet for future generations and is also going to help create jobs that put Americans back to work, it’s going to save consumers money at the gas pump and on their home heating bills,” she said.

The League report gave Rep. Eliot Engel a 92 percent rating. Senator Charles Schumer received 91 percent and Senator Hillary Clinton received a 36 percent rating.
