Existing home sales continue to drop

MID-HUDSON – Sales of existing single-family homes in the Hudson Valley and Catskills continued their double digit declines in August, according to the New York State Association of Realtors.

The largest decline in sales year over year in August was in Columbia County, at 34 percent; the lowest drop was in Sullivan County, at just under 11 percent.

Home sales fell by 29 percent in Orange County, by over 27 percent in Westchester, by 26 percent in Ulster, by 20 percent in Dutchess, by just under 20 percent in Putnam by 16 percent in Rockland, and by over 12 percent in Delaware County. No August figures were available for Greene County.

Statewide, home sales fell year over year in August by 20 percent.

The median selling price for an existing single-family home fell in August in all counties except Columbia and Putnam where the prices rose.

The lowest priced homes sold in Delaware County, at a median price of $92,500. The highest priced homes were in Westchester at $720,000.
