Three crows test positive for West Nile in Putnam

BREWSTER - The Putnam County Department of Health received notification from the New York State Department of Health that three more crows have been laboratory confirmed having the West Nile virus.

Two were located in the town of Carmel and one in the town of Kent. This brings the total to date to nine birds.

There have been no mosquito or human cases of West Nile virus in Putnam this year.

The mosquito season is coming to an end soon; however, residents should continue to re-inspect areas around homes eliminating potential mosquito breeding grounds. This includes removing all sources of standing water since reoccurrence of warmer weather will cause adult mosquitoes to become active again.
