Special legislative session has bipartisan support

ALBANY – Governor Paterson’s call for a November 18 special legislative session has the support of Hudson Valley lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Democrat Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther of Forestburg said it is needed to continue to resolve the state’s financial issues.

“I think we have to evaluate if there are going to be cuts and what cuts we are going to do and hopefully it will be an open discussion,” she said. “One thing I think the governor has to not cut is our funding for education because if they do it again, real property taxes will go up.”

Assemblyman Marc Molinaro of Red Hook, a Republican, said state officials “need to act now in order to rein in state spending and improve our government’s efficiency.”

He said all players in Albany must identify cuts and develop a strategy for long term fiscal stability.
