Government to offer assistance for Kaz employees

HUDSON – The US Government is going to provide Trade Adjustment Assistance to the 339 workers who will soon lose their jobs when Kaz, Inc. in Hudson moves its operations to Mexico.

Trade Adjustment Assistance is available to any worker that can certify that their unemployment is directly attributable to foreign trade.  Those workers deemed eligible by the US Department of Labor – as the Kaz workers have been - may access a menu of services that include income support, relocation allowances, job search allowances, and a health coverage tax credit. TAA participants that require retraining in order to obtain suitable employment may receive occupational training too.

“I was deeply saddened that Kaz is closing its manufacturing operations in Hudson,” said Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, “However, it is my hope that the folks working there will be able to use the TAA assistance to springboard into another local career so they can stay in our region and continue to make Hudson the great city that it is.”

Affected workers can access their benefits by going to their local one-stop career center. The easiest way to locate the closest one-stop is by going to www.servicelocator.org and entering your zip code.
