Man arrested for felony DWI after trying to outrun deputy

MAMAKATING - An Ellenville man has been charged with Felony DWI after trying to outrun a Sullivan County Sheriff's deputy in the Town of Mamakating.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Deputy Scott Jordy was patrolling Roosa Gap Road in Bloomingburg, on the lookout for intoxicated motorists, when he clocked a 2005 Acura traveling 60 in a 40 mile per hour zone.

When the deputy attempted to turn around in the vicinity of Berentsen's campground, the driver of the Acura accelerated, causing the deputy to lose sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, the deputy came upon the Acura, overturned near the intersection of Horton Road.

The driver, Julian Manley Jr, 34, of Ellenville refused medical aid at the scene and was taken into custody. He was charged with Felony DWAI drugs and failure to comply with a police officer. He was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail.

Sheriff Michael Schiff reminds citizens that his deputies will be out on patrol this holiday season protecting motorists from drunk or drugged drivers, especially, as in this case, on the back roads of Sullivan County.
