| Benson encourages enrolling teens in DMV notification service |
|
GOSHEN - Orange County Clerk Donna Benson Wednesday encouraged parents of teenage drivers 16 to 18 to avail themselves of a new state Motor Vehicle service where they would be notified if their teenage driver has a conviction, suspension, revocation or accident. “This free service provided by the DMV will be a great tool in notifying parents or guardians of their children’s driving records,” said Benson. “Young drivers simply do not have the experience in developing safe driving habits. These notifications will allow parents and guardians to work effectively with teens to help develop these necessary habits.” According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, motor vehicle accidents are the number one killer of people ages 16 to 17. Under the notification system, DMV will send a letter acknowledging participation in the TEENS program and indicating that a reportable event had occurred. Attached to the letter would be a DMV driver license file abstract for the young driver involved. On the abstract would be a listing of the revocation, suspension, conviction or accident. DMV would send the notification letter to the address on the parent/guardian’s license or non-driver ID card. Enrollment forms are available in all Orange County DMV offices. Call (845) 291-3090 for a form or more information. |
