| Vassar Brothers awarded "Best Place to Work" by nurses |

POUGHKEEPSIE - ADVANCE for Nurses, a regional magazine geared toward the nursing community, named Vassar Brothers Medical Center "The Best Place to Work" among the select "top hospitals" in the magazine's second annual Readers' Choice survey. The nurses who voted for Vassar Brothers selected it to receive this award among a field of 291 hospitals in the Greater New York/New Jersey Metro Area. Vassar Brothers received this distinction in both years the survey was conducted. Nurses voted based on a variety of factors, including quality of care, organizational culture, professional development, communication and retention efforts. Readers were invited to rank their facility by responding on a 1-5 scale to 10 statements in each of these different categories. Vassar Brothers Medical Center attained its ranking by scoring 4 or greater in all five categories, making it the only New York hospital outside New York City to receive this honor. "As a physician, I understand that doctors may treat patients but nurses really care for them,” said Hospital President Dr. Daniel Aronzon. “Nothing is more critical to successful outcomes than a talented, supportive and committed nursing staff. To be receiving this recognition as a "best place to work", from nurses who know about our culture and our commitment to their success, means a great deal. Our goal is to recruit and retain the absolute highest quality staff and to create an environment were they feel empowered to advocate for themselves and our patients. This award demonstrates our success."
