West Point cadet named Rhodes Scholar

WEST POINT - The Rhodes Scholarship Trust has announced U.S Military Academy Cadet Josh Lospinoso of Sparta, N.J., as one of the 32 American recipients for this year’s prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the criteria of scholastic talent, leadership ability, integrity of character, selflessness and physical prowess.  Lospinoso, 22, will have the opportunity to continue his education at the University of Oxford in England, for two years.  Since 1923, West Point has earned this achievement 88 times.

Lospinoso is in his final year at the West Point where he double majors in economics and operations research.  He is a Regimental Operations Officer at West Point and has branched Infantry. 

Lospinoso has also competed in the Sandhurst competition for three years.  He plans to study for a Master Science in applied statistics at the University of Oxford beginning in October 2009.
