| OCJ receives health care accreditation |
|
GOSHEN – The Orange County Jail has received accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The organization is dedicated to improving the quality of correctional health care services, assists correctional facilities provide effective and efficient care and sets standards for the proper management of a correctional health care delivery system. Facilities that seek accreditation must meet or surpass these rigorous standards of operations. These standards help correctional facilities improve the health of their inmates by increasing the efficiency of their health services delivery, strengthen their organizational effectiveness, reduce their risk of adverse patient outcomes and enhance the overall health of the communities to which they return. An accredited facility often reduces legal judgments that in turn results in lower liability insurance rates. “This additional accreditation is once again the product of administration and corrections personnel working together, this time with our health care vendor, Correctional Medical Services, to improve the health and care of the inmates, which reduces acute care costs, and potential liability,” said Sheriff Carl DuBois. “It may also reduce costly insurance premiums, as has other accreditations the office holds.” Orange County is the only county facility in the state to hold combined accreditations from NCCHC, American Correctional Association, and the New York State Sheriff’s Association. The Law Enforcement side of the Sheriff’s Office is accredited by New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. |
