| Nyack College tries for second adult ed campus in Orange County |
||
GOSHEN – Nyack College officials are hoping they have better luck with a second adult education satellite at the Orange County Government Center in Goshen. They announced the program Monday with County Executive Edward Diana saying in a matter of hours when the word got out, five county employees expressed interest in the program. But, another adult ed satellite established months ago in Port Jervis, which was aimed at not only Western Orange County residents, but also residents of neighboring Pike County, Pennsylvania, has had no success. Not one person has signed up for the program. In Goshen, the 14 month program will consist of one night per week for a total of 32 credits. Students with at least 60 credits would be eligible to participate in the Goshen program. Life experience would also be counted toward college credits, said college Director of Admissions for Adult and Distance Education Karen Shaffstall. “We’re excited about the fact that so many people will be given the opportunity, as long as they already earned those 60 college credits and need to complete their degree, we’re hoping to have a really good turnout.” Diana said that providing additional educational opportunities for Orange County residents is yet another way for them to expand their horizons and he said he expects the Nyack College programs to gain in popularity.
