SAUGERTIES – Three Orange County teens have been arrested and charged by Town of Saugerties Police after they were found in possession of several GPS navigational units, IPods, radar detectors, and over $100 in loose change. Steven Torres, 18, of Kensington Manor in Middletown, and twin brothers, Kevin Lauritzen and Marc Lauritzen, both 17, and from 29 Summerset Drive in Montgomery, were each charged Tuesday with three counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree as a felony and three counts of conspiracy in the fifth degree as a misdemeanor. The three confessed to stealing the items from motor vehicles in the immediate area, police said. At about 7 a.m. Tuesday, police received upwards of 40 complaints from local residents that their vehicles had been broken into overnight. The agency also discovered that similar incidents had occurred over the last several months in Ulster, Orange and Dutchess counties. The Saugerties Detective Division was able to link the three teens to similar larcenies in the Orange County area. As a result, Torres was turned over to Newburgh State Police for further questioning. The brothers were arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of bail. Saugerties Police encourage everyone to lock their vehicles at night and secure any valuables from their vehicles in an effort to deter those types of incidents in the future. |
