| Westchester lawmakers approve funding for new voting machines |
|
WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Board of Legislators Monday voted to bond $472,000 to purchase 420 new HAVA compliant voting machines for persons with disabilities. After federal reimbursement, the county’s share will be five percent, or $246,740. The additional $225,250 will be to purchase “election day bags” described as similar to rolling suitcases needed to collect and transport the additional paper ballots used and produced by the new machines. County Legislator Jose Alvarado of Yonkers said the five percent county share for the equipment is “misleading” because the county will still need a facility to store the new and old machines and have more personnel on staff with the skills need to maintain the new equipment. |
