Man’s legs severed by train

GARRISON – A northbound Metro-North train struck a man lying on the tracks late Friday afternoon, a spokesman said.

The train was one mile north of the Garrison train station at 4:14 p.m. when the engineer saw a man on the tracks. The engineer sounded the horn and hit the emergency brake, but the train could not be stopped in time and severed the man’s legs, said railroad spokesman Daniel Brucker.

The man was removed by ambulance. His condition was unknown Friday night.

Passengers were kept on the train and only one track remained operational. There were delays for just under two hours when full service was restored.
