Orange County receives state funds for shared water study

GOSHEN – Orange County will receive $258,000 from the state for its Mid-County Study Group Shared Water Feasibility project.

“In order for our county to continue to respond to growth and the challenges of the future, we need an adequate and manageable water supply,” said County Executive Edward Diana. “The Mid-County Study Group and the creation of regional water systems will give Orange County the ability to meet the needs of our citizens while maintaining the quality of life we have all come to enjoy.”

The county study group was initiated in the summer of 2006 as a means to organize a sub-regional discussion or alliance on municipal infrastructure and land use needs and potential county roles to meet shared needed.

The mid-county group is investigating the feasibility of an inter-municipal water supply and possible distribution of groundwater from county and municipal owned lands including the Indigot and Dwaarkill site.
