| Former State head of governor’s security detail dead of apparent suicide |

NEW WINDSOR – The former head of retired Governor George Pataki’s security detail has committed suicide in his New Windsor home. Retired Inspector Gary Berwick, 48, was found dead in his home by a family member, according to officials. Berwick was assigned to protect Pataki and his family for 12 years. The former governor was said to be in shock when he heard the news. Berwick had served with the State Police from October 1982 until his retirement in late April 2008. During his career, Berwick rose through the ranks as a trooper, investigator, senior investigator, major and staff inspector. He is survived by three daughters and his wife. |
