Two injured when restaurant gas stove explodes

MONTICELLO – Two people were injured when a gas cooking stove at Island Paradise Jamaican Restaurant in Monticello exploded late Saturday morning.

They were taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center before Monticello firefighters arrived on the scene, said Fire Chief Marc Friedland. Their names and conditions were unknown. No one else was injured.

The fire also caused a smoke condition in the adjacent Chinese restaurant and deli, said the chief.

The Smallwood FAST team was called to the scene and Forestburgh and Rock Hill were on standby.
