NEWBURGH – City Police in Newburgh have arrested two people in connection with the drive-by murder of Jeffrey Zachary, 15, on Dubois Street on Tuesday night.

Police charged Joshua Torres, 16, of Beacon, and Daniel Correa, 21, of 31 Concord Street in Newburgh with second-degree murder.

Torres was allegedly driving the car and Correa fired shots that struck and killed Zachary while he was outside.

Police recovered the vehicle and gun used in the murder; both were found where the suspects abandoned them, in the rear of a parking lot of the Bourne Apartments at 150 Smith Street in Newburgh.

Participating in the investigation were City of Newburgh Police Detective Division and Crime Scene Unit, State Police BCI, State Police Troop F Crime Scene Unit, Joint Crimes Task Force and the Orange County DA’s Office.

It was three years ago that Zachary’s older brother, Trent, then 19, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting just a block away.
