Liberty man indicted in slashing

MONTICELLO – A Liberty man, who allegedly slashed a man requiring over 40 stitches to his face, has been indicted by a Sullivan County grand jury.

Angelo Johnson, 31, was indicted by a Sullivan County Grand Jury Wednesday for Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.

According to Chief Assistant District Attorney James Farrell, Johnson was arrested by Village of Liberty Police on May 6, 2006 after an investigation into a slashing that occurred the night before at a Village apartment.  According to the indictment, Johnson cut another man in the face requiring in excess of forty stitches after forcing his way into the man’s apartment.  Johnson faces up to 25 years in state prison if convicted of the charges.

According to Farrell, Johnson has a pending Assault in the Third Degree charge pending in the Village of Liberty for an alleged assault of Regenald Rios on February 27, 2008 on Chestnut Street.  Rios later died after trying to exit the basement of the building after being caught in the basement door.
