| Westchester legislature Republicans opposes pay hikes for themselves |
|
WHITE PLAINS - Responding to recommendations made by the Compensation Advisory Panel regarding salary and stipend increases, the Republican caucus of the Westchester County Board of Legislators Tuesday voiced its opposition to any increase in salaries or stipends for county legislators. The Republican caucus supports many of the reforms recommended last week by the non-partisan, citizen Compensation Advisory Panel. But, they said they oppose stipend increases since they were proposed by the Board’s Democratic leadership last December and also proposes that any stipends for committee chairpersons and leadership positions should be set by the entire Board of Legislators as a fixed salary and not awarded by the board chairman. Minority Leader George Oros of Cortland said there was no justification by the Democrats to propose a 7.5 percent pay raise; lawmakers received salary hikes three years ago, he said. |
