West Point cadet dismissed, but cleared of rape charge

WEST POINT – A member of the Class of 2009 at West Point has been found not guilty of rape, but was found guilty for making a false official statement.

Cadet Orry Jones, H Company, 3rd Regiment, also pled guilty to failing to obey a general order. During a court-martial May 2, he was sentenced to dismissal from the U.S. Army and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Jones was formally charged with failure to obey a general order, making a false official statement and rape.

“Cadet Jones’ behavior is inconsistent with the values of the Military Academy,” said West Point Director of Communications Col. Bryan Hilferty. “The judge found his actions to be in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the standards of conduct of the U.S. Army.”
