Ulster County, ten communities consider consolidating services

KINGSTON – Ulster County and ten of its municipalities are going to spend almost $261,000 from the state to conduct a feasibility study into possible shared services.

The study will include the county and the towns of Denning, Hardenburgh, Hurley, Marbletown, Marlborough, Rosendale, Saugerties, Wawarsing, Ulster and the City of Kingston.

The county-wide share services feasibility study and implementation plan will research, identify and review the municipal services provided by the county and duplicated by each of the local governments.

The focus of the study will be on shared highway services and where feasible, the potential for consolidation of court programs.

From the information gathered, an analysis will be completed that identifies areas where combining either space, service, departments, or employees would result in positive outcomes including a cost savings for one or more of the municipalities and/or an increase in the quality and amount of service delivery.
