MIDDLETOWN – A Yonkers woman, who worked for a company that was conducting inventory at a Middletown area department store, has been arrested and charged with identity theft for allegedly stealing a credit card and using it several times. State Police at Middletown charged Gillian Smith, 37, with identity theft in the first degree, forgery in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, all felonies. On April 25, Smith is alleged to have stolen a credit card in the Town of Wallkill and immediately made several purchases at stores in the town. Interviews of merchants and video surveillance photos led investigators to a company conducting inventory at one of the stores. Smith, who was an employee of that inventory business, was arrested. She was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. |
