Noonan runs for Ulster County executive

Noonan: "... versed in
how it should work"

KINGSTON – Ulster County Legislature Republican Minority Leader Glenn Noonan has announced that he will seek the Republican, Independence and Conservative Party endorsements to run for county executive this fall.

Noonan said his 14 years on the County Legislature make him the best candidate for the job.

“Right now the legislature is controlled by the Democrats and I can’t see one party controlling the county,” he said. “Having worked on the Charter Commission, knowing the charter pretty well, and knowing the transition and the importance of a smooth transition to the executive form of government, I feel they need someone who is versed in how it should work.”

Enrolled Independence Party member Leonard Bernardo also wants the GOP, Conservative and Independence lines in the fall.

The only Democrat in the race now is County Administrator Michael Hein. County Legislator Susan Zimet, who was in the race briefly, withdrew unexpectedly on Sunday.

Alan Wikman is running for the county’s top job as an independent.
