Police close to arrest in Sunday shooting

MONTICELLO – Police may make an arrest shortly in connection with a shooting last Sunday night. A 22-year-old man, who was walking to a convenience store in the Village of Monticello, was shot in the back. He remains at Westchester Medical Center.

Police Chief Douglas Solomon told MidHudsonNews.com Tuesday his department is close to making an arrest. He said they interviewed a suspect after the shooting Sunday night and he remains a person of interest.

As soon as officers interview the victim, they may press charges, the chief said.

The victim and the person of interest apparently knew each other, said Solomon.

Police are also investigating an incident of other shots being fired in Monticello 45 minutes before the man was shot outside the store. No one was reported injured in that incident.
