| Monticello imposes tougher code enforcement |
|
MONTICELLO – New Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins said the former village administration would turn the other way with regard to code enforcement issues with some properties. That will change now with the new administration, said Jenkins. “We’re playing a tough and cold code enforcement in the Village of Monticello,” he said. “We have people that are buying single-family homes and they are cutting them up into rentals and that’s not legal, and they are putting rooms in, and that’s terrible.” Jenkins said those property owners are “totally out of line” when they come to village board meetings and complain of mistreatment. Jenkins said the village is concerned about safety first and foremost and will enforce housing and zoning codes to the fullest extent of the law. |
