| Man wanted on warrant for drug charges arrested after fight with trooper |

TARRYTOWN - A Queens man is facing assault, resisting arrest and marijuana charges after being stopped by a New York State Trooper assigned to SP Tarrytown. Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Monday night, Last night, Trooper David Katz conducted a traffic stop of a 2002 Land Rover for several traffic infractions southbound on the Thruway in Tarrytown. A file check of the driver, Wilfredo Martinez, 33, of Jamaica, NY, revealed an active warrant from New York City for felony drug charges. When Trooper Katz attempted to place Martinez in custody, Martinez violently resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, which forced both men to the ground, Trooper Katz was able to secure Martinez and take him into custody. A small quantity of marijuana was found on Martinez, who was also charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. He was to be remanded to the Westchester County Jail where NYPD would be advised and expected to lodge a warrant. |
