Westchester to hold off on county worker pay raises until 2010

WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Board of Legislators Monday night issued a statement agreeing with the Compensation Advisory Board’s recommendation that there should be no pay raises for county union workers for another year-and-a-half. They also supported the CAB’s suggestion that no stipend or salary increase be approved for any legislative leaders or legislators during this term of office.

The county’s labor unions have not had a contract since January 1, 2006, and given today’s tough economic times, all 17 legislators agreed that raises, if any, would not be effective until 2010. The lawmakers also supported a CAB recommendation that any raises should be capped by a cost of living index.

The advisory board’s recommendations will now be referred to the Board of Legislators’ Legislation Committee for full consideration and legislative action.
