Poughkeepsie plans $5 million infrastructure upgrades

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie Common Council Monday night approved $4.8 million in bonds to undertake a number of infrastructure upgrades.

Work will include upgrades to streets, sidewalks, parking, technology, parks, water, storm and sanitary sewers and the wastewater treatment plant.

Common Council Chairman Brian Doyle said the work is needed to bring the city up to modern levels.

“We need to continue to rebuild the infrastructure and I think we are doing a good job,” he said. “That means that we are having to invest dollars and we are looking at each one of those investments very carefully to make sure it’s necessary. But, we also know we have to keep up the infrastructure of the city in order to succeed.”

The life spans of the projects range from five to 30 years.
