Airports get federal funding

Kingston/Ulster Airport

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Transportation is going to fund runway safety improvement projects at three local area airports.

Kingston-Ulster Airport will receive $53,590, Sullivan County Airport at Bethel will receive $149,150, and Joseph Y. Resnick Airport in Ellenville will receive $373,730.

Kingston-Ulster Airport will use its grant to remove obstructions at the end of Runway 33 by identifying the obstructions and creating a disposition plan on how to remove them.  This grant will provide funds for the design phase of that process.

Sullivan County International Airport will use its grant to improve the runway safety area at Runway 15-33.  These funds will be used for design and land acquisition. Improvements to the runway safety area will help the runway meet federal safety standards.

Joseph Y. Resnick Airport will use its grant to construct a taxiway to the T-hangar taxi-lane segments A and B.  The taxi-lane segments being constructed with these funds are necessary to serve as access to future T-hangers.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey announced the grants.
