POUGHKEEPSIE – An 82-year-old man died Friday afternoon when the car he was driving crashed through a rear fence of the Rite Aid store parking lot at 40 Vassar Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie and struck a tree.

Town Police said the man, not publically identified, struck the fence, went through and struck the tree.

The man appears to have lost consciousness due to a prior medical condition, police said. He was transported by Arlington Ambulance to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
