| Construction leader recommended as new Port Authority boss |
|
ALBANY – The managing director of the General Contractors Association of New York is Governor David Paterson’s choice as the new executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Christopher Ward would replace Anthony Shorris, who resigned last month. Ward “has developed extraordinary skills during his long career in both the public and private sectors,” said Paterson. “I believe he will provide the visionary leadership needed to build and maintain a first-rate transportation and infrastructure system for the 21st century.” The Port Authority runs Stewart Airport at Newburgh and with his construction background, he is an ideal person for the job, said Todd Diorio, president of the Hudson Valley Building Trades Council. “It’s great news. He would be an excellent choice. He’s got a great construction background.” The Port Authority has targeted $500 million toward development of Stewart, which is expected to employ local labor over the 10 years the money will be spent.
