Man charged with killing Yonkers delivery man

YONKERS – A man who lured a diner deliveryman to a Yonkers apartment building and killing him has been arraigned on murder and other charges.

Xavier Goodwine, 19, of Yonkers, was charged with placing a cell phone call to the Emerald Diner in Yonkers around 9 p.m. on December 17, 2007, and ordering food to be delivered to the 18th floor of 50 Hawthorne Avenue.

About an hour-and-a-half later, the body of Martin Perez was found in a stairwell at the building. He had been shot in the face. The food he was carrying was found on a different floor.

Yonkers Police investigated and connection Goodwine to the cell phone that placed the call. He was arrested two days later.

He has been charged with murder in the second degree, attempted robbery in the first- and second-degrees, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and tampering with physical evidence.

If convicted, Goodwine faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
