| Wholesale grocery worker charged with stealing over 190 cartons of cigarettes |

NEWBURGH – State Police at Newburgh have charged a Walden man with grand larceny for allegedly stealing over 190 cartons of cigarettes from C&S Wholesale Grocers on Corporate Boulevard in the Town of Newburgh where he worked. The butts have an estimated value of $5,900. Police said James Gallardo, 36, of 43 Oak Street, Apt. 6 in Walden, allegedly took the cartons in the early morning hours of May 1. The cigarettes were located in Walden and the Town of Montgomery and recovered by troopers. Gallardo was arrested Thursday evening. He was arraigned on a charge of third-degree grand larceny and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance. Police said additional charges are pending further investigation. |
