| Riverkeeper releases policy and legislative agenda for 2008 |

TARRYTOWN – Riverkeeper, the environmental group with a mission to maintain the environment of the Hudson River, Wednesday released its “Clean Water & Healthy Communities – Legislative and Policy Agenda for 2008.” The group, which is an outspoken critic of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, campaigning for it to be shut down, presented its long-term policy initiatives, priorities for federal and state action, and its continuing coalition work with New York partners. The group supports a number of clean water initiatives including the Water Quality Investment Act of 2007, the Raw Sewage Overflow Community Right to Know Act, Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007, Water Quality Financing Act of 2007, Clean Water Protection and Flood Protection Act, Environmental Access to Justice Act, and increased penalties for violations of watershed rules and regulations. On the safe, clean energy front, the group supports an independent safety assessment at Indian Point, the Nuclear Power Relicensing Reform Act of 2007, an Article X bill for new power plants, an expansion of the current net metering laws in the state, smart metering, and costs for increases security at New York nuclear power plants covered by owners and operators, not the public.
