First round of CDBG funds announced in Rockland

NEW CITY – Federal funding totaling $875,000 was distributed among several towns and villages in Rockland county Tuesday as part of the federal Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program.

Recipients of the 2008 first round grants are the villages of Spring Valley, receiving $250,000; West Haverstraw, Haverstraw and South Nyack each receiving $100,000; Suffern and Hillburn each receiving $50,000 and Piermont, receiving $1,000.

The Town of Ramapo will receive $150,000 and the Town of Haverstraw will receive $75,000.

The money will be used for development of parts, replacing sidewalks, curbs, new lighting, and to upgrade storm drain and water systems.
