Bonacic wants to keep the heat on NYRI

ALBANY – The state Public Service Commission’s announcement this week that NYRI’s amended application to build a 190 mile long power line, filed in February, was not in compliance with the requirements of PSC law, is a victory for opponents of the project, State Senator John Bonacic said Tuesday.

The PSC decision is a setback for the power line, said the Mt. Hope lawmaker.

“We at the state level – and I believe all of the advocates are doing a good job in delaying and telling NYRI we don’t want you in the State of New York – it’s the federal government that I’m worried about that is trying to preempt what we are trying to do in New York,” he said.

Opponents of the line said it is not needed and would ruin the landscape along its route. NYRI officials say the power the line would carry to New York City is very much in demand.
