Columbia County man indicted in Westchester for two cold case homicides

WHITE PLAINS – A 43-year-old Hudson, NY man was indicted Tuesday for two previously unsolved murders. Kenneth West was charged with killing Josephine O’Keefe of Pelham in 1983 and June Roberts in Mount Vernon in 1986.

West was indicted on three counts of murder in the second degree in connection with the murder of O’Keefe and on one count murder in connection with the killing of Roberts.

On July 18, 1983, the body of 53-year-old Josephine O’Keefe was discovered in the bedroom of her home. She had been raped and strangled. She was discovered by her daughter-in-law, who went to the house when her family was unable to contact her.

On August 8, 1986, June Roberts, a 23-year-old, was found face down in a parking lot between two parked cars directly opposite the old Mt. Vernon Police Headquarters. She was discovered by a man who was parking his car. She had been strangled.

West is currently remanded at the Westchester County Jail.

If convicted, he faces 15 years to life in prison on each homicide.
