Man wanted in Westchester murder arrested near Binghamton

BINGHAMTON – A man wanted in connection with a Westchester County murder was arrested Saturday evening in Broome County after he threatened to jump off an overpass on State Route 17.

State Police in Sidney said the man, identified as Robert Sepe, 53, of 74 Quake Hill Road in Croton-on-the-Hudson, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the killing of his girlfriend, Janette Carlucci, 41, of the same address.

On Saturday, March 22, State Police at Cortlandt found Carlucci murdered in his residence.

Later in the day, State Police spotted Sepe, standing over the guardrail and fence on the Shedd Road overpass on Rt. 17 in the Town of Windsor and told a trooper not to come any closer. State Police crisis negotiators were called to the scene and spoke to Sepe, who they said appeared to be despondent, for three hours.

At about 8:40 p.m., some 3½ hours after the drama began, he lost his footing and grip on the fence at which time police grabbed the man and prevented him from falling from the bridge. He was taken to the State Police Barracks at Binghamton where he was evaluated for possible injuries.

When Sepe was linked to the Westchester murder, State Police from Troop K at Cortlandt drove to Binghamton to pick him up.

The investigation is continuing.
