| Fanslau’s contract renewal close to a done deal |
||
MONTICELLO – It’s not even being called a renegotiation. The Sullivan County Legislature, with one dissenting vote, gave the okay to legislature Chairman Jonathan Rouis to work out the terms of a contract extension for County Manager David Fanslau. “His terms and conditions of employment, which outlines his vacation time, his sick time, his insurance coverage and his severance should he be fired without cause. I don’t view that as reappointing or anything like that.” Fanslau has been county manager since September 11, 2006. He was hired after a one-year search following the firing of the former county manager. That was a partisan move by the majority Democrats on the County Legislature. Fanslau has drawn general praise from Republicans as well as Democrats, but Republican David Sager, who joined the legislature in January, voted ‘no’ on the resolution. He would only say this could have “waited until certain issues are resolved”. He would not say what those issues are. He also felt there was wording “that seem to subjugate our power” in the resolution, giving the chairman the power over the contract renewal. |
