Poughkeepsie Council leader suggests college housing in city

Doyle: "safe and
positive"

POUGHKEEPSIE – As the Dutchess County Legislature stands poised to approve funding for off-campus student housing for Dutchess Community College near the campus in the Town of Poughkeepsie, a top official in the City of Poughkeepsie has made a counter proposal.

Brian Doyle said the city’s downtown area would make an ideal location for student housing for the community college.

“I think it could be done in a way that promotes compatibility with areas residents, area businesses, and is a safe and positive prospect for the students,” he said.

The county legislature will vote tomorrow night to approve a ground lease for construction of those dorms in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
